Light Reading caught up with Verizon and its first responder and public safety arm, Verizon Frontline, on progress to restore the network after Hurricane Helene and preparation for Hurricane Milton.
Efforts to restore network connectivity and provide essential supplies to the regions impacted by Hurricane Helene were still in their early stages as Hurricane Milton made landfall this morning in Florida.
Light Reading caught up with Verizon and its first responder and public safety arm, Verizon Frontline, to discuss progress on restoring the network after Helene and how they were preparing for Milton.
"The reality is when we are out doing restoration in these impacted areas, the level of devastation that we're seeing, still two weeks in after Helene impacted, is tremendous," said Gina Owens, AVP of Access Engineering and Operations for Verizon. "It's going to be a very long road ahead for all of those who are struggling. And while we've seen really great gains on our network being restored and performing back to baseline… these communities need to have more support long term." Read more here.
